Public Sector Projects
Marion Barry Statue
The project consisted of the erection of a new statue of former mayor and councilman Marion Barry at the southeast corner of the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue NW and 14th Street NW in Washington, DC. The bronze statue is located in a planter enclosed by concrete landscaping walls.
For design purposes, DMY performed a limited geotechnical investigation at the location of the planned statue to provide subsurface information regarding the existing soil conditions. In order to provide the requested geotechnical information, we drilled hand auger borings and performed Dynamic Cone Penetrometer (DCP) testing at the planned location of the statue in the existing planter. During construction, DMY performed a soil bearing evaluation using DCP testing, concrete strength testing for the statue base, and electrical bonding inspections for grounding.
Kennedy Center Expansion Project
The Kennedy Center Expansion project was the institution’s first new construction since the iconic landmark opened in 1971. The funds for $175 million project was raised under the “Building the Future” campaign. The proposed expansion included three land-based pavilions and a new pedestrian bridge to connect the Kennedy Center with the Potomac River waterfront. DMY was hired to observe the installations of the waterproofing system for this project.
